Why I may listen to a song over and over again without getting tired of it:
-If it’s a good song.
-If it’s a song with good lyrics or is otherwise inspirational.
-If the lyrics have ambiguous meaning and can provide a different experience for different moments of listening to it.
-Because I’ve played an instrument before and therefore get the experience of imagining myself playing the same tune on my chosen instrument.
-Because there’s more than one instrumental part to the song, and I like to pay attention to each of them to see what the different instrument lines are like, especially when they’re not the melody.
-To try to hunt and pick out the parts of the song that may be quieter due to the volume of the melody.
-To really pay attention to what the players wanted to emphasize in each part.
-To really get a sense of the changes in rhythm, especially if the song has drums.
-To determine how the parts clash together and really pay attention to the effect of each clashing of each instrumental part.
-To create a scene in my head that would go along with the song.
-And probably some more things I forgot to mention.
